Understanding Wrist Fractures

A wrist fracture is a break in one or more of the bones in the wrist. The most common bone to break is the radius. These injuries often occur from falling onto an outstretched hand.

Symptoms and Assessment

• Severe pain and swelling
• Deformity (the wrist looks crooked or out of place)
• Inability to move the hand or wrist normally
• Numbness or tingling in the fingers

Treatment Options

Dr. Tarek Roshdy will determine the best treatment based on the fracture type and alignment:

• Non-surgical realignment and casting
• Internal fixation using titanium plates and screws (volar plating)
• Percutaneous pinning (using wires to hold the bones)
• Advanced rehabilitation to restore grip strength and dexterity
